Ten Blessings Of The Week.

IMG_0955

Sometimes it can be a challenge to remember the blessings in the week, however it is a beautiful challenge to just spend some time reflecting on the week, to recall at least 10 things to feel blessed for. It can become a positive check of how you spent your time and how you were feeling. The days and weeks can pass us by with out us even really thinking about how we spent our time, and all the beautiful moments life has to offer. I think  this is just a beautiful exercise to encourage a positive outlook to life.  Ten blessing was an exercise which was in the book “ Be Happy” by Robert Holden. You can check that book out if you would like to know more.
Here are my Ten Blessings of the Week:

1.Feeling blessed to have a city day with my boys, and go to the movies, then go to a public place like Federation Square enjoy our lunch and  watching kids movies on the big out door screen.

2.Feeling blessed to have a really warm home to live in with great heating because it is cold outside.

3.Feeling blessed to enjoy another city day, and go to the Wallace and Gromit exhibition, and create our own little mini movie. Attend my first film festival which was for  young film makers and wow they made some excellent short films. The future is bright!

4.Feeling blessed and happy to notice one of my camellia’s budding in my garden.

5.Feeling blessed to be able to attend my Toastmasters Club Officer training, meeting great people, learning how to improve my skills and abilities, and feeling inspired to be a better person.

6.Feeling Blessed to have lots of family time with my boys on school holidays, even though they are teenagers and have their own interests, we still find things to do together and have fun doing it.

7.Feeling Blessed for books and reading time, hard cover books and also audio books. This week I have been enjoying both, and it is good to notice my oldest son is really into books.

8.Feeling Blessed to relax in a comfortable home, enjoy a love home cooked meal and a glass of wine with family.

9.Feeling Blessed for two clothes horses, because everything is being dried indoors during the winter months, and also grateful for a few fine days to wash and dry sheets and towels. Fresh sheets and towels always feel so good.

10.Feeling blessed to so easily enjoy the experience of walking around the picturesque Australian Gardens, which is close to my home and free of cost.

Ten Blessings Of The Week

IMG_0955

Ten blessings of the week, this is something I have been doing a number of years now. I believe it is important to have a attitude of gratitude. Ten blessings of the week is something that helps me practice gratitude.

I love this quote because I think this is an important part of being a Happy Suburban Chick. “I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness – it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude. ” By Brene Brown. It is more about noticing the special moments in the ordinary, and being appreciative to what is already present in our lives.

This week 10 blessings are as follows:

1. The biggest blessing of them all was seeing Mighty Mouses specialist, who suggested surgery be postponed, he is allowed more time to grow, and they try and get it all done in one go. Oh, how one operation sounds so much better than four.

2. Once again my local library is feeding me a steady supply of books for my reading addiction. Feeling blessed that I have access to a wonderful resource place the local library.

3. Winter is here bringing rain, and cold mornings and nights, I am feeling so blessed to have a collection of coats and umbrellas to keep me warm and dry.

4. Feeling blessed for cold nights at home, curled up in a cozy armchair reading books or watching tv with hubby. These winter’s nights I love staying home and being a warm contented homebody.

5. Blessed to listen to great music and cooking yummy meals.

6. As much as I dread going to the dentist, I am grateful to be able to afford to go to the dentist and get a check up and dental clean for my teeth. It uncomfortable, I often anxious, and I know it keeps my teeth cleaner, stronger and likely to last longer.

7. I am blessed for family lunch and celebration of my brothers birthday. It is lovely to have a family tradition of celebrating birthdays together.

8. I am blessed to have a lovely Sunday morning sleep in. It was so cold outside lovely to have extra time under the covers with a good book.

9. I work a lot of weekends so I was feeling blessed to enjoy a weekend off to relax, spend time with family and catch up with friends.

10. I am blessed to have a fluffy doggy, Little Miss Popularity to follow me around and spend time curled up next to me on the couch in a nice warm room.

Reflect. What are your Ten Blessings of the Week?

Wishing you a wonderful day!

Ten Blessings Of The Week!

There is a cold chilly stillness outside, the clouds are still, and I can not feel a single breeze. I sense the morning is telling me to be still and write, that it is not to late to put this blog post out there. So I listen!

Life is so cold here in Melbourne, and I can not remember the last time Winter felt this cold. It is the type of Winter that requires layers of clothes, even hats, scarfs and coats. In saying that Winter is not that cold, that you can not go for a walk in nature, or get on with daily life. It just cold enough to require rugging up and putting the heating on.

The past week was a wonderful week and I felt much brighter than the past few weeks. This previous weeks Blessings Of The Week are as follows:

  1. I am so blessed for, sunshine, some fellow dog lovers to walk with and beautiful flowers of rosemary from my adventure walk this week, it was a gorgeous day for a walk and it really lifted my spirits.
  2. I am so blessed for my basket weaving with wild grasses workshop, my basket may not look that amazing but I just love it and really enjoyed the process of making it, and the company of the lovely ladies at the workshop.
  3. I am so blessed to have access to some free online learning about writing for young readers, I am learning so much, and created a second story so I feel like I am really achieving something from it.
  4. I am so blessed for Friday movie night with the boys, I just love this tradition.
  5. I am so blessed for the simple pleasure of my purple blanket to wrap around myself.
  6. I am so blessed for Hubby cooking a roast dinner on Saturday night.
  7. I am so blessed for a family day out to Cloudhill Nursery and Gardens. Beautiful magical gardens even in Winter, although I would love to go back in summer time.
  8. I am so blessed to be able to attend Yoga classes, really got to stretch my body out and relax. I always feel energised and relaxed after a Yoga class.
  9. I am so blessed that I could attend the dentist and have my broken tooth fixed, it is a costly and uncomfortable procedure, however at the end of the day I still get to keep my tooth. I am really happy about that.
  10. Finally, I am so blessed for the simple pleasure of some alone time to re-energize and relax.

Whilst this cold weather makes it easy for me to be a homebody and curl up in my chair with my blanket wrapped around me and catch up on some television series, at the moment I am watching Glitch and it is really weird. I get sucked in and just want to know what happens next.   I feel am also watching too much television.

Time to  wrap myself up in a blanket, curl up in my arm chair by the window, sip on a cup of coffee, take out my journal and write in the stillness of the morning.

Feeling grateful each day helps me make decisions from my happy place, I just know things will turn out alright, maybe not as I had anticipated but they will be alright and so will I. My Ten Blessings from the previous week are as follows:

  1. I am so blessed that I continue to smile each day.
  2. I am so blessed that I am able to have dinner each night with my family at the dinner table.
  3. I am so blessed for a comfy chair curl up in and a warm purple blanket to wrap myself in whilst I write in my journal each day.
  4. I am so blessed for a clean fluffy dog to listen to snoring in the evenings, and to accompany me on my long walks.
  5. I am so blessed for finding a great joke that I could tell and have some fun with at my Toastmasters Meeting.
  6. I am so blessed for my nice warm bed to sleep in at night, I am really enjoying it on these cold winters nights.
  7. I am so blessed to be able to have a family lunch out at the local hotel, it was a lovely Sunday lunch.
  8. I am so blessed that the boys still want to watch movies with me.
  9. I am so blessed for morning coffee that my husband brings to me in bed. I am so spoilt.
  10. I am so blessed that my son got a friendly dentist to pull out the piece of baby tooth left. No pain. Mighty Mouse was so brave and didn’t even feel it. Just soft food for a couple of days, and opportunity to have lots of soup.

It was a week that just unfolded beautifully, focused around family and the dog. Today Mighty Mouse has a day off school so we went and got a hot chocolate and caramel slice. His favourite.

Ten blessing reminds me to enjoy the simple things in life, and to notice the  little extravagances like going out for a meal or that caramel slice, so that I can enjoy them and not take them for granted.

The previous week has been a quiet week, full of illness so  I spent most of my time home looking after my son with a cold. Unfortunately as soon as he got better,  I went to work on the weekend coming down  sick with a gastro bug, only to end up in bed feeling sick and miserable myself. However before going to work on Saturday Morning, I took my self on an Artist’s Date to the Finders Market at the old Exhibition Buildings.  I walked around admiring the wonderful crafts being sold. The place was full of colour, creativity and beautiful creations. I could have easily spent more time there. That is life up and down! Here are my Ten Blessings of the previous week:

  1. I am so blessed to simply be alive and breathing.
  2. I am even more blessed to be able to stay home and care for my youngest son Mighty Mouse when he is not well.
  3. I am blessed that I have access to a doctor and health services when myself or family are ill.
  4. I am blessed that even when life feels a little like drudgery, there are always small pleasures like a hot shower,or a cup of tea, or simply a quiet moment curled up in a comfy arm chair.
  5. I am blessed that I have paid employment, it allows me to afford the life I enjoy, and still be available to look after my boys and be their for them when they need me.
  6. I am so blessed that people enjoy me wearing a pink flower in my hair. The pink flower brightens up my mood, and it continues to surprise me by how many people comment on how lovely the pink flower in my hair is. A simple ordinary pink flower can brighten up an individual’s day, and put a smile on their faces. I think that is amazing.
  7. I am so blessed that I enjoy looking out my front window, seeing the clouds roll by, the trees dance in the wind, making a strange whooshing musical sound, whilst my doors choose to sing a rattling sound.
  8. I am so blessed that I enjoy the smell of my candle burning, and the sweet smell from that gently wits under my nose. It also makes this delightful cracking noise, so it reminds me of the sound of fire. It gives me a sense of warmth and peace.
  9. I am so blessed that I got to go to my oldest son, Mr Serious’s school church service with him, the theme was growing in unity.
  10. I am so blessed that I was able to attend my Toastmaster’s meeting, and listen to some informative educational speeches, these have inspired me to want to improve and do more in my roles. I also admire the Ice breaker speech that was given, that first speech it is so special, and it was so interesting. It was a lovely night, with lots of guest, everyone just taking on a role and contributing, the room was full of positive energy, and smiles.

Those were my Ten Blessings of the week, and looking back on it, it wasn’t as quiet as I thought. Lots of lovely experiences existed amongst the drudgery of dealing with sickness. It so easy to get stuck on the negative and forget about those lovely positives that bring so much joy into our lives.

Just reflect back on your past week or day. What Ten Blessings did you experience?  I would love for you to leave a comment.

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

At the moment I am feeling frustrated and annoyed, because things are just so complicated and not going my way. I can feel myself getting really tense and just wanting to explode. I could jump up and down and scream right at this moment. Instead I think it is the perfect time to do my Ten Blessings of the Week. This is a good thing to focus and lighten my mood. My ten blessings are as follows:

  1. I am so blessed to enjoy so many simple things that bring me joy, my journalling, music, reading, conversations, walking, laughing, hot showers and hot cups of tea and coffee.
  2. I am so blessed for the lovely bunch of flowers that I received from my boys for Mothers Day
  3. I am so blessed for the evening I spent with Mighty Mouse at Scouts, where he massaged my shoulders, massaged my hands, and did a survey where he said my favourite food was carrots, my favourite hobby was reading and he enjoyed the time we did things together. I think we must eat a lot of carrots, I just think eating carrots is good for our health.
  4. I am so blessed for watching Mighty Mouse concure his fear and do a tree adventure, he was so brave, and is now so proud of himself, it is such a beautiful thing to witness.
  5. I am so blessed to witness my son Mighty Mouse go from being a cub to becoming a scout. I am a very proud Mum.
  6. I am so blessed to be able to catch up with my relatives and celebrate a special wedding anniversary for my parents. It was a wonderful celebration and night.
  7. I am so blessed that my husband made delicious tasting bacon and egg rolls for breakfast on Mothers Day.
  8. I am so blessed to be able to spend Mothers Day with my own Mum, we even had chocolate cake, and Dad organised tea, pizza.
  9. I am so blessed to wake up each morning a simply breathe and I am especially so blessed that my youngest son is one year older.
  10. I am so blessed for all these little challenges they just make me that bit stronger and more appreciative.

I do feel lighter after writing these blessings, and have had a wonderful week and weekend spending time with my family with birthday celebrations and Mothers Day celebrations. Even though at the moment I am feeling challenged by life I am going to choose to be kind and a good friend to myself.

Ten Blessing Of The Week!

IMG_0955

April has ended and we are now into May. I love that all the leaves have been falling of the Red Stick Maple tree in our back yard and I look forward to the Camellias coming out in flower over winter. The weather has turned cold and wet, and the days are getting shorter. I am loving get rugged up under blankets in the evenings and enjoying a TV show or simply reading a book.

This weeks Ten Blessings for the previous week are as follows:

  1. I am so blessed to be able to have my boys immunised through the council programme, it is important to me that they are protected against preventable diseases. It is also fortunate for me to have such easy accessibility to immunisation programs and that the cost are covered.
  2. I am so blessed to have healthy ears, that serve to allow me to heal well. Thanks to access to healthcare and a ENT specialist my hearing conditioned is managed very well and is a small inconvenience for my twice yearly appointments.
  3. I am so blessed to have hot teas and coffees to sip upon.
  4. I am so blessed to attend a cake decorating demonstration, the lady was explained things so simply and gave lots of frugal tips.
  5. I am so blessed to find that perfect present for my son, after searching so many toy shops for it.
  6. I am so blessed to have heating on these cold days, making our house warm and cosy, and the perfect place to be on cold winters nights.
  7. I am so blessed to have a selection of coats to choose from to wear on cold wet or windy days. I just love rugging up in my coats, every time I leave the house I wear my coat.
  8. I am so blessed to have beautiful music to play and listen to, it just makes me feel happier.
  9. I am so blessed to get amazing tips from strangers, especially with some good cooking suggestions.
  10. I am so blessed for having a mobile phone, it makes so much easier to reach my destination on dark rainy nights. So glad I had it the other night, drove up and down the road, looking for the right house. In the end after a phone call or two, my husband was able to walk to the drive way entrance and I found him.

As the cold wet weather sets in, I find the days get quieter and more homely which I throughly enjoy. I enjoy the greenness of the garden. I love the opportunity to rug up in my coats and wear my long boots. I enjoy the sound of rain especially when I am in bed. Those big grey fluffy clouds, I love them too. I love the magical feel of Autumn its richness of colour, the changing colour of foliage and leaves piled on the ground. I love walking through the leaves and kicking them, it is so much fun. I love the earthy smell of the ground that comes after the rain. There is so much I love about Autumn.

Another beautiful week has gone past, and it has been a week focused on enjoying the school holidays with the boys. Today Mighty Mouse is back at school getting stuck into term 2, and tomorrow Mr. Serious  goes back.  Whilst Easter was spent at work, and yes I still managed to eat way too much chocolate. However I do love chocolate. Here are my Ten Blessings from the previous week:

  1. I am so blessed that I could get our car serviced, so it is running well and remains reliable. I had so much fun driving it around on our holiday, it is a great car for family trips.
  2. I am so blessed to be able to go to the Movies with my son, we saw Lego, and yes the awesome song is stuck in my head.
  3. I am so blessed to have been able to catch up with my parents twice during the week, once for lunch and the other afternoon tea. Two wonderful lazy relaxing days just catching up.
  4. I am so blessed to have been able to attend a Happiness Workshop. Wow I felt happy when I left and I now have a happiness journal so I can start my own happiness project.
  5. I am so blessed to be able to enjoy my cups of tea, out of a lovely cup and saucer which is so beautiful and was a Kris Kringle gift one year.
  6. I am so blessed for all the great conversations I had with people over the week, it is the little things like that which make me feel happy.
  7. I am so blessed for more red ripe juicy tasty home-grown tomatoes, and I think I have picked the last of them. Oh how tastier the home-grown tomatoes are.
  8. I am so blessed that Chocolat was the Friday night movie, and that I accidentally stumbled across it. It was so beautiful, arty, and such a feel good movie. I totally enjoyed it.
  9. I am so blessed to have a cosy chair or two to curl up in during the evenings, I love our lounge suit so much it has been overused and is starting to wear out. It is still super comfy.
  10. I am so blessed that I laughed so much this previous week, life was just so funny, in the silliest of ways. It feels good to be able to laugh.

Quote of the week: ” I believe that being happy is the only important thing. Happiness. Simple as a glass of chocolate or torturous as the heart. Bitter. Sweet. Alive.” ~Joanne Harris author of  Chocolat.

Whilst a happy surprise came my way today! I woke up to pouring rain and the postman delivered me these most amazing pink gum boots. I am loving my bright pink gum boots, they have certainly added a pop of colour to my day, and I can now enjoy jumping in puddles.

Ten Blessings of the Week!

IMG_0955

Recently I just spent a lovely week away with my darling  boys, so this post is a little late. It is also school holidays and I have been distracted in a beautiful way spending time with family especially my boys.

It has been extremely busy this past week. The boys have been on school holidays and we spent the week away at Phillip Island. Our holiday started with rain, and more rain. Thankfully I packed coats, other than a lot of rain it was a lovely holiday and a good break.
My ten blessings from the previous week are as follows:
  1. I am so blessed to that the package for my husbands work turned up early at the post office, and  that the lady serving me was very helpful. This meant we could get away early for our holiday.
  2. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to go for a holiday to Philip Island.
  3. I am so blessed that I packed our coats and had at least one umbrella, so the rain didn’t stop us from doing things.
  4. I am so blessed that it rained so hard on day, that we went back to our cabin early and spent the afternoon and evening reading a gorgeous book.
  5. I am so blessed that we got to enjoy some delicious lunches and different cafes. The food was very yummy and we filled our selves up for lunch, which meant we only needed a light dinner.
  6. I am so blessed that the rain kept the crowds away, but not the penguins, which meant we could easily get up and close to the penguins.
  7. I am so blessed that we got to go to lots of different places , and had great experiences going to historical farm, feeding wallabies and kangaroos at the wild life park, and spotting koala’s at the Koala conservation centre, and of course looking for seals at the Nobbies.
  8. I am so blessed I had a great reliable car to drive around in, it made me feel so much more comfortable driving around especially at night in a strange place.
  9. I am so blessed that I am so cautious, and was driving cautiously, and looking out for the night life, I was expecting kangaroos, but it was a sheep that was on the middle of the road. My cautious driving meant I didn’t hit it, rather had plenty of time to slow down and stop. The sheep slowly moved of the road, and everyone was safe.
  10. I am so blessed that every day of our holiday was a great adventure, and a day of joy, even with the rain.

My holiday didn’t go as I planed, we had to change our plans. We had to be happy with the rain. It all worked out and we had a great holiday.

Quote of the week: “Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.” ~Roger Miller
