Benefits of Journaling.

Benefits of Journaling

Today is another one of those cold wet Winters days, and it is lovely to sit at the table with a burning candle, soft relaxing music in the background, and my lap top just tapping out some more thoughts on Journal writing.
Journal writing is more than recording facts about your daily life, it goes much deeper than that. It delves into your emotions, beliefs, stories, dreams and desires and so much more. It is a powerful tool for self discovery and creativity. The benefits of journal writing are enormous, and it is one of those tools that cost very little, and you get to decide where and when you will do it.

Bookshelf Review~ Find Happiness Now.

This book came from my local library, I borrow so many books from the local library. It is great and saves me lots of money.

This book came from my local library, I borrow so many books from the local library. It is great and saves me lots of money.

Find Happiness Now written  by Jonathan Robinson.
This book offers 50 ideas/strategies for bring more love, balance and joy into your life, so I was definitely curious about what gems it had in it. I am always looking for more ways to live life more beautifully. So here is the three that I decided to apply.
1 The Three Good Things Exercise – according to the book this exercise can increase your happiness level by 25% in six months. This exercise was originally created by Positive Psychologist Dr. M. Seligman. It consists of three steps.  These are as follows:
  1. To identify something in your day that made you feel good or happy.
  2. Then write down that thing that made you feel good or happy on a piece of paper or in a journal. (I like to write things down in my journal)
  3. Then reflect on your role in creating that moment of feeling good or happy.
The next step is to repeat the above three steps another two times until you have three things that made you feel good or happy.
(Robinson, J., 2014, p.17)
Of course the book explains this in much more depth, and gives details about why this exercise works. This exercise is perfect for me because I love my daily journaling practice, and are always looking for ways to make it more powerful.

How to encourage yourself. –  The art of rewards. This exercises on how to give yourself rewards appropriately in a way that is encouraging. Firstly the reader is encouraged to come up with a list of 12 rewards from small things like taking a bath to bigger rewards like going to your favourite restaurant, and the author recommends a variety of rewards. Then you ask yourself what behaviour you want to encourage. Then you can work out a reward system that encourages you to achieve that desired behaviour that you wish for. Once again the book explains it in much greater detail. (Robinson, J.  2014, p.37-39)
3.The Magical Playlist.
This one is easy and I have been creating my own play list, some of my music lists  are up beat and make me cheerful, and  some are relaxing and meditative, just slowing me down allowing me to feel in a relaxed mood. It is amazing how music can influence a persons mood, for me I like quietness most of the time, however I find certain songs can get me into a good mood quickly.
There are so many great ideas in this book, and there is sure to be a couple that will jump out at you. I chose these three because they jumped out at me, and they were three exercises that I can easily apply in my life, for example I already love journaling, so I am integrate the first excise into that. I am big into self-care, and the art of rewards fits well into that, and finally the magical playlist, well I now have four playlist and it is music that makes me feel good in some way.

Also excited about doing this :

A Day For Happiness, Moving Towards A Life of Happiness!

The General Assembly of the United Nations declared on July 12th 2012 that the 20th of March would be the International Day of Happiness. It is not just about our own personal happiness it is also about moving towards happiness and wellbeing for all human beings around the globe.  The United Nations recognises that, “the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal.” Whilst even though  in Australia we have peace, abundant lifestyles where all our basic needs are met, people are still struggling  to be happy.

Two things have made me really think about happiness today. One was yesterday having a conversation with someone who was clearly struggling with personal happiness. It made me feel grateful that I wake up every morning looking forward to my day, I am truly happy to be alive and engaged in life. Whilst last night I   also reminded by someone about the personal satisfaction and happiness that comes from being able to serve in your community, whilst  it is hard work , it is also rewarding. So I look forward to serving my son’s school community the best that I can.

Unbelievable I have been listen to a free course live on Creative live at http://www.creativelive.com, called Moving to Happiness by  Petra Kolber, full of great tools and knowledge about happiness. Five things I took away that I could apply right away were as follows:

  1. Express Gratitude
  2. Be an positive optimiser and seek out the benefits.
  3. Move, for me that will be daily walks. I would like to do some other activities like some group classes in the near future.
  4. Nurture relationships with others and yourself
  5. Just smile and practice kindness.
  6. Look foreword with an positive outlook.
  7. Breathe and take time to pause
  8. Manage perfectionist.
  9. Take some action even if its a small action. All the small actions are the building blocks towards a big action. So moving forward
  10. Learning to fail, and redefine failure as an opportunity especially an opportunity to learn.

Personally I think that focusing on happiness makes me a better person, who can be more supportive to my family, friends and community. Happiness is something you have to work on everyday, it so easy to forget about it and get stuck in the drama, rather than managing the drama with a positive outlook, focusing of the benefits. Also happiness is in those little actions like choosing to be kind, getting up and doing some exercise or simply moving, getting enough sleep, setting aside time to just do things you love , being mindful and present in the now, expressing gratitude especially to others, and so much more.

So what is one thing you could do today to add more happiness into your life?

Today I am going to breathe and pause, before I react, so I can react more kindly and calmly, and so I have that moment to reframe the negative and look for the positive. I think my children and husband will benefit from this, whilst I will be happier and calmer from making better choices and not feeling like I am being mean and angry.  Hopefully I can include some of the other things, but for me I tend to over react to a challenging situation or even just one of my children creating a mess. So breathing , pausing and reframing my thoughts about the situation will be a big step for me, and I know I will be happier if I can do it.

Wishing you all a Happy Day!

Weekend Bliss!

Happy Marvellous Monday!

It has been a busy weekend full to activities and delights. Yes slept  in late, read books on my Kindle in bed, found a delightful place for lunch, visited a local art exhibition, and caught up with family.

On Saturday we went for  an adventure to Red Hill North to a place called Montalto Vineyard and Olive Grove for the Olive Festival.
On our way down the sky turned dark, and it began the rain began to fall. Cold and wet did not seem to mater. This beautiful scenic place caught my attention.
Enjoying the day in my lovely thick red coat.

The pizza and wine caught my husband’s attention. We enjoyed sitting outside under the umbrella with the rain falling around us, enjoying pizza, wine and an awesome view. It was relaxing and allowed for some enjoyable conversation, especially with my son about his organic cola

After lunch we hit the tent, filled with music, and bursting with people, we delighted our taste buds in tastings of olive oils and cheeses.

So cute!

We then hit the took the opportunity to stroll along the wet lands walk, where we enjoy views of the vineyard and olive groves, covering the rolling hills. We enjoyed the wet lands and the artistic sculptures that we saw throughout our walk.
How much fun would this have been to create?

It made me wonder what other amazing places don’t I know about. It was a truly lovely day and a splendid place to have lunch.

Steps to make life more interesting.

Sometimes life is so busy and I get stuck in a pattern. One of the reasons I started this blog was to get out of boring same old same old patterns and create a life I really  enjoy living. I wanted life to become more interesting, and full of joy. I wanted to wake up each day full of wonder about what the following day held for me. Since starting this blog I have been enjoy life and discovering so many wonderful things about my life.

The following is a post from my old blog site Just, http://just-franny.blogspot.com.au/
Steps to make life more interesting.

Engage with a variety of people.
I think meeting and socialising with new people is always very stimulating. It is great to mix with a variety of people and be exposed to different opinions, ideas, cultures, personalities, and hear different personal stories. I find mixing with people makes me feel alive, and opens me up to new ideas and activities. I think the world is full of interesting people. The key is to be interested in the person you are engaging with and not worry about being interesting. When I am interested in others I always find out how amazing and interesting they really are.

Add Spice to Life
There are many small and simple ways to add spice to life. For instance I often randomly pick books out to read. This ensures I read about things I would not usually chose to read about. It helps to expand my mind. I also love to randomly pick music out, now I will listen to a range of music. I often find it useful to change radio stations in the car. Now that I am getting older I don’t want to risk getting set in my ways. Also it exposes me to the way different generations speak and view the world. I love watching different movies especially foreign movies, and alternative movies. Secretly I have a very dry and dark sense of humour. Recently I watch a movie called Rubber. It was about a movie about an evil tyre. It was definitely dark humour, and I couldn’t stop watching it. I like to try different foods. Once I was the international officer for a club along with my usual activities I included social activities of going to a different type of restaurant each month to try different international dishes. I continue to try different foods and dishes today.
Sometimes it is good to try a new hobby. Some of the ones I have tried over recent years have been creative writing and Toastmasters. I still do Toastmasters. Even different activities e.g. I went and did a boot camp fitness course. I am not the sporting type but I just loved it.

Spontaneity
This I find difficult. I feel safe and love my routines. But too much routine makes me a very boring girl and is one of the major causes for me getting stuck in a rut. This is one of the reasons it is so important to just allow for flexibility in ones life. For example drive a different way. Shop at different shops. Do something you don’t normally do like skiing or rock climbing. It is so important that from time to time we get out of our own comfort zones. It is more important to experience things than to perfect them. I always find it difficult to get out of my comfort zone, yet afterwards I always feel good.   Just doing things differently. Having an idea and acting on impulse. Changing the schedule around. Indulging in play or creative activities. It is often through those times of spontaneity that I get exposed to new opportunities.

Always be More:
I believe it is not healthy to settle in life. We can chose to grow, develop, and explore. Life evolves it is continuously changing. The journey is life. It is our job to enjoy the journey and experience it to the full.

I hope to tap into this post, get out of my rut, and get back into living a interesting life again. I welcome any of your ideas about ways in which we can make our lives more interesting. I wish you all a great day!

Bookshelf Review~The Luck Factor

This year I set a goal to read 52+ books for the year. That is one or more books a week. So far I have been reading one book a week.  I have recently read the The Luck Factor  by Dr Richard Wiseman and from his research and findings it shows that unlucky people can become lucky and lucky people can become luckier. Wow, I know I would just love to be lucky. This is one of those books I just randomly came across at the local library. I just had to read it. The book gives examples of lucky and unlucky people. The best thing is the author provides lots of practical exercises that the reader can use to improve their luck.
The author identifies four principle of luck these are as follows:
  1. Lucky people maximise their chance of opportunities.
  2. Lucky people listen to their hunches
  3. Lucky people expect good fortune
  4. Lucky people turn bad luck into good luck

Some of the things that came across to me was the importance of getting to know more people, and also increasing the variety of activities/places you attend. You have to go out and find opportunities, they don’t just come to you. Also listening to hunches, I think intuition is a great guide, and it is usually right. I must admit I don’t always expect good fortune I am always factoring what could possibly go wrong. Now I am going to focus on all the good things I expect to happen. Lucky people also set goals, they achieve more and have more fulfilling lives. This makes a lot of sense to me, because if your life is going in the direction you want it to go in and you are achieving the things you want to achieve then it certainly will be more fulfilling. Lastly bad things happen to all of us, lucky people don’t dwell on the bad things but look for the possible good things in the situation.

So as the author writes we should affirm our luck, so I will leave you with one of his lucky affirmations:
I am a lucky person and today is going to be another  lucky day” ~Dr Richard Wiseman
So have a great day, regards  Fran the one who lives in ‘ The Lucky Country ‘ or otherwise know as ‘The Country Of Opportunity’ Australia
